Our fuel

Where does our electricity come from?

We're proud that 100% of the electricity we provide to homes is certified as being sourced from UK based wind and solar generators.

For every Megawatt hour (MWh) of electricity purchased for our customers, we also purchase a Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin (REGO) certificate, which proves the electricity is certified as being sourced either directly from the renewable generators or through a green wholesale energy provider.

The electricity that is physically supplied to British homes and businesses comes from the National Grid, via the pylons and substations in the local area. To cover the electricity consumed by customers on our green tariffs, we purchase Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) certificates. Ofgem issues one of these certificates for every megawatt hour (MWh) of renewable electricity produced by generators.

Other renewable energy schemes

Renewables Obligation

Under this government scheme, energy suppliers provide support for renewable electricity generators. Robin Hood Energy (our partners) pays a contribution in proportion to its market share, either by purchasing Renewables Obligation Certificates (ROCs) directly from renewable generators, or by paying into a buy-out fund.

Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)

The RHI is an incentive from the government for users of renewable heat. Anybody who meets the requirements of the scheme is eligible to receive quarterly payments for seven years, for the amount of renewable heat their system produces.

Our fuel mix

All energy companies are required to advise their customers about the mix of fuels they use to supply electricity to their customers and the impact it has on the environment.

The table below shows information on electricity that we supplied from 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2019, by our energy provider Robin Hood Energy.
